Say Hello to ‘Dark Eagle,’ the Army’s New Hypersonic Weapon

The US Army and US Navy have got these in the field and they’re ready to go. While there were problems and some delays in getting them out before the end of the FISCAL year at the end of September 2023, the first units were delivered and deployed by the end of the calendar year of 2023.

With a range of 1,723 miles, this bad boy has the capability to strike deep into Russia or even China. Here is more from Popular Mechanics, written in August of 2023.

The U.S. Army has named its new land-based hypersonic weapon system “Dark Eagle.” The service is “confident” that the weapon will enter service in 2023. Once it does, Dark Eagle will give the Pentagon a land-based, long-range capability that can cover the scope of Asia, striking deep into the Chinese heartland at speeds in excess of Mach 5.

Developed in conjunction with the Navy, Dark Eagle combines the unpowered Common-Hypersonic Glide Body (C-HGB) with a large rocket booster. The booster accelerates Dark Eagle to ultra-fast speeds, over five times faster than the speed of sound. Here’s a March 2020 test that took place in Hawaii:

The system includes the hypersonic missile itself, the mobile launchers (called Transporter Erector Launchers, or TELS) and a mobile command and control (C2), according to Strider’s slides.

“It’s going to be a battery of four launchers, two missiles per for basic load of eight,” he explained. “It’s going to be a Battery Operations Center — that’s our C2 system that is based against an AFATDS, the [Advanced] Field Artillery Tactical Data System …. with a support vehicle,” he explained. “This will be a road mobile system, which is critical, the ability to move around the battlefield.”

The ground equipment will allow the unit to begin training, including loading and offloading practice canisters from C-130 transport aircraft, Strider explained. It also will lay the ground work for upcoming Joint Flight Tests (JFTs) done in coordination with the Navy, and with observers from the Missile Defense Agency.

The first operationally configured JFT will take place in early in fiscal 2022; the second, using a TEL, in fourth quarter 2022; and the third — which Strider called the “graduation event,” in which the unit will independently “fly in, they will set up, they will launch, and redeploy back to home base” — in early fiscal 2023.

The Russians aren’t happy about these missiles being deployed into Germany, Poland, Romania and other NATO countries because of their ability to strike DEEP INTO RUSSIAN TERRIROY UNDETECTED! While they may not be nuclear capable at the moment their destructive power is able to destroy Russian military targets far beyond the battlefields of Ukraine. This has Russia very concerned and upset with countries like Poland and Germany. I would expect those 2 nations to be hit first in any expansion of the war.

So as you can see that the reports in the mainstream press that the U.S. doesn’t have these missiles deployed yet are CLEARLY WRONG! Meanwhile I’m still getting nasty emails from some of you telling me that I’ve been reporting fake news on this subject. There is your proof, now put that in your pipe and smoke it!
