What’s Publicly Financed Russian Media Saying About Syria’s Regime Change?

Guest Post by Andrew Korybko

It appears as though the Kremlin signaled to those outlets within its “sphere of influence” to withhold publishing worst-case scenario forecasts for now while their country’s diplomats try to avert an even worse crisis.

Publicly financed Russian media’s reaction to Syria’s regime change is a lot different than most could have expected after they earlier warned that this could lead to an unprecedented terrorist crisis. Those concerns were warranted since Turkish-backed Harat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is designated as a terrorist group and was originally part of Al Qaeda. Nevertheless, these outlets’ reactions have been surprisingly calm, thus suggesting a desire to play everything by ear for the sake of retaining Russian influence there.

RT published two very thought-provoking op-eds since the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) epic collapse and Assad’s cowardly flight from Damascus that are worth reviewing in this context. The first is by Murad Sadygzade, who’s President of the Middle East Studies Center and Visiting Lecturer at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, and answers the question of “Why did Syria fall so fast and what happens next?” He began by drawing attention to foreign meddling but then dove into domestic details.

This approach is noteworthy since it had hitherto been very rare for publicly financed Russian media to talk about the Assad Government’s many shortcomings, but Sadygzade candidly addressed them:

“A key turning point came when Assad lost the support of even those who had stood by him for years. Economic hardships, sanctions, and a growing sense of hopelessness led many to believe that change was inevitable, even if it came at the cost of destruction. The strategic mistake of the ruling elite – betting on a military solution to the conflict while ignoring political dialogue, both domestically and internationally – ultimately left Assad vulnerable to determined and well-organized adversaries.”

The second RT op-ed is a republication of an article by Gazeta.ru political analyst Vitaly Ryumshin under the title “Assad’s collapse was coming – everyone just looked away”. Here are the highlights:

“Assad’s Syria had been rotting from within for years. The country was locked in a perpetual humanitarian and economic crisis, with 90% of Syrians living in poverty and widespread malnutrition. Desperate families took out loans just to buy food but couldn’t pay them back. Power outages crippled even Damascus, sometimes leaving the capital dark for 20 hours a day. Electricity prices soared by up to 585% in the spring of 2024 alone, pushing an already destitute population deeper into despair.

The Assad government offered no solutions – only mounting repression. Under crushing sanctions, Damascus couldn’t secure foreign loans, and with its oil fields under US-Kurdish control, there was nothing left to trade. Even Syria’s illicit drug trade, once a lifeline, couldn’t plug the gaping holes in state finances. Profits disappeared into the pockets of warlords and traffickers, not the state treasury.

Meanwhile, Assad’s underpaid, demoralized army, bled dry by years of civil war, continued to disintegrate. For a time, Iranian proxies like Hezbollah propped up his forces, but by 2024, they’d shifted their attention to fighting Israel. Attempts to draw Russia further into Syria’s quagmire fell flat. Moscow, busy elsewhere, had no interest in bailing Assad out.”

Ryumshin also twice referred to the Assad Government as a “regime” in back-to-back sentences, writing that “In the south and southeast, dormant rebel cells rose up, striking a final blow against Assad’s hollowed-out regime. On Sunday, opposition forces stormed Damascus from several directions. Bashar al-Assad, whose regime withstood over a decade of civil war, finally fell from power.” It’s a stunning change in RT’s editorial policy that they didn’t replace that previously taboo word before republishing.

Perhaps they listened to what their senior correspondent and veteran Syrian War journalist Murad Gazdiev told them in an interview, where he concluded that “Assad’s govt fell due to corruption, lack of organization, and motivation”. He has a decade worth of experience covering this conflict so his post-mortem on Assad’s Government should be taken very seriously. Publicly financed TASS also editorialized the word “regime” into a headline about Syria on Tuesday in a related visible change of policy.

The day prior, they described HTS’ chief as an “armed opposition leader” without referencing the US’ $10 million bounty on his head for terrorist-related crimes or even his connection to such groups. TASS also reported how “Syrian Embassy operating as usual under new flag”, which implies Moscow’s tacit (key qualifier) acceptance of this regime change in the sense of continuing to recognize those Syrian diplomats as official representatives of the new ruling arrangement who are allowed to keep working.

Their press review of Vedomosti’s article about the future of Russia’s military bases in Syria adds context to why that tacit acceptance appears to have been made. Ibragim Ibragimov, a researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of World Economy and International Relations, told them that “I don’t exclude that a new format of military-technical cooperation will appear soon and that Russian military instructors will play a role in establishing a new Syrian army.” That would be an intriguing turn of events.

It might not be as far-fetched as some think provided that there’s political will and the right conditions to make it work, the latter of which would require the non-terrorist anti-government opposition (NTAGO) to separate itself from terrorist-designated groups and figures. Moreover, such groups and figures would have to prove that they’ve changed their ways, just like the Taliban have sought to do since returning to power in mid-2021 to regain Russia’s trust and try to have restrictions on cooperation with them lifted.

To that end, meaningful progress on implementing UNSC Resolution 2254 from December 2015 would go a long way, which Assad refused to do for reasons beyond the scope of this analysis. The Russian-written draft constitution that was unveiled during the first Astana Summit in January 2017 could also be revived to serve as a model for the constitutional reform that this resolution obligates Syria to undertake. Assad had unofficially rubbished it due to the concessions that he was asked to make.

Judging by what the head of the Syrian armed opposition delegation to the Astana talks told Sputnik and the president of the Syrian Negotiation Commission told RT, these two internationally recognized NTAGO platforms want to retain positive relations with Russia. That could explain why the leader of the new interim Syrian government, Mohammed al-Bashir, was described by TASS as someone who “joined anti-government armed units supported by foreign funding” instead of the previously typical foreign proxy.

Reflecting on publicly financed Russian media’s reports about Syria’s regime change, it therefore appears as though the Kremlin signaled to those outlets within its “sphere of influence” to withhold publishing worst-case scenario forecasts for now while their country’s diplomats try to avert an even worse crisis. The worst might still be yet to come, but it hasn’t yet unfolded and might still be prevented, hence the importance of them remaining calm and reciprocating the new ruling arrangement’s positive.

Lebanese Researcher: HTS Leader Was Abducted as a Child, Raised by the Mossad, and Sent to Syria

This video was sent to me by brother Leeland. We have no way to verify if what this Lebanese researcher says is true or not but it makes sense as Israel plays the long game as we saw with the phones and pagers. This would explain why the HTS leader was so friendly towards Israel right after taking power. Unfortunately for Israel he doesn’t control all of the terrorists and some have already broken away from him and the main HTS group.

His reference to the Luciferian groups could also be referring to the Freemasons as one of them.

In a December 7, 2024 appearance on Al-Masirah TV (Houthis-Yemen), Lebanese researcher Dr. Ali Hamie claimed on the eve of the fall of the regime of Bashar Al-Assad that HTS leader Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani was kidnapped by the Israelis as a child, raised by the Mossad, and later sent to Syria to infiltrate it. Hamie also stated that during the time Al-Jolani was believed to be in an American prison, he was actually receiving training in Iraq. Additionally, Hamie argued that U.S. President Joe Biden is the “biggest supporter of the Luciferian movement,” which he described as seeking to control people through monotheistic religions.

War in Syria Update as Russia and Turkey Form New Alliance?

Baba Vanga – the “Nostradamus of the Balkans” – had warned that Syria’s fall would mark the start of a devastating global war.

Her prophecy states: “When Syria falls, a great war between the West and the East will follow. In the spring, a conflict will ignite in the East, leading to a Third World War – a war that will destroy the West.”

No it’s not Biblical prophecy but it’s very interesting nonetheless. All of today’s news is in the video

Jerusalem Next’: Syrian Rebels’ Big Declaration Against Israel, Message To Gaza | Watch

It looks like Israel is going to be getting some blowback from the so called “rebels” they supported in Syria. This is a big reason why Israel is destroying as much Syrian weaponry as they can so they don’t have to fight against it later.

Syria has Fallen to the HTS Terrorists as Assad Flees to the UAE, Update! Assad now reportedly in Russia

This is historic and Biblical as Damascus has fallen and Bashar Assad has reportedly fled Syria for the UAE and now there are rumors that Assad’s plane was shot down by Israel and that he is dead. This report has yet to be confirmed but the radar tracking evidence shows that his plane did go off the radar and reportedly crashed!

BREAKING:

Reuters, citing two Syrian security sources, reports a “very high probability” that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was killed in a plane crash near Homs last night.

The aircraft, departing from Damascus International Airport, is believed to have been shot down.

Also Israel is taking advantage of the situation and is invading Syria from the Golan Heights. I would expect that they will receive no opposition as they’re obviously on friendly terms with the invaders.

Syrian “rebel” giving an interview to Israel’s channel 11:
“Dear neighbours & friends from the friendly state of Israel
There will be no extremism, we share passion. We invite Israel to come to Syria and invest.”

@Megatron_ron
HTS terrorists who have taken over Syria have started public executions across the country. This execution is reportedly of Bashar al-Assad’s cousin Ammar Assad.

We are witnessing Biblical Armageddon unfold as Leeland Jones talked about in his latest video release which I posted here yesterday and in fact it’s rolling out so fast it’s hard to keep up with!

Meanwhile Russia has released a statement regarding the takeover of Syria and the exit of Assad.

‘We are following the dramatic events in Syria with extreme concern. As a result of negotiations between Bashar al-Assad and a number of participants in the armed conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic, he decided to leave the presidential post and left the country, giving instructions to transfer power peacefully

Russia did not participate in these negotiations. At the same time, we appeal to all parties involved with a strong call to renounce the use of violence and resolve all governance issues by political means.

In this regard, the Russian Federation is in contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition. We call for respect for the opinions of all ethno-confessional forces of Syrian society, and support efforts to establish an inclusive political process based on the unanimously adopted UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

We expect that these approaches will be taken into account by the UN and all interested players, including in the context of the implementation of the initiative of the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Syria, Georg Pedersen, to urgently organize inter-Syrian inclusive negotiations in Geneva.

At the same time, all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our citizens in Syria. Russian military bases in Syria are on high alert. There is currently no serious threat to their security.’

As I stated above Israel is continuing to take full advantage of the situation and is destroying military bases and other areas in and around Damascus Syria. Are we about to witness the total destruction of Damascus as prophesied in Isaiah 17?

BREAKING: 🇮🇱🇸🇾 Israel is bombing Damascus now

It carried out several airstrikes against buildings in Damascus, including the passport & migration office

Israel destroyed Mezzeh Military Airport in Damascus

BREAKING: ‘Starting tonight, the main battle front will move to Syria. We will start fighting on the Syrian front and will not allow anyone to reach our borders’ – IDF Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi

Just like that Israel invades Syria, imagine that.

Last but not least President Elect Donald Trump issued his official statement on the situation in Syria.

BREAKING: 🇺🇲 DONALD TRUMP OFFICIAL STATEMENT ABOUT ASAD AND THE SITUATION IN SYRIA

“Assad is gone. He has fled his country.

His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place.

They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever.

Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success.

Likewise, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness. They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians.

There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse.

I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!”

Guys Bible prophecy is unfolding in front of our eyes at a rapid pace! Just when you think there’s a break in the action the action just shifts to another hotspot. Stay ready, stay prayed up and prepped up at all times and be ready to flee when told to do so by the Holy Ghost, that time is coming soon!

Hama, Syria – War for the North Boundary

For a Biblical perspective on what’s happening in Syria right now (and the Middle East in general) here is Leeland Jones’ latest video on the subject. It’s amazing how accurate the scriptures describe what’s happening in Syria right now, especially with how fast it’s happening! This is more proof that we’re at the end of the age and the return of Jesus Christ is at hand!

Here is more on the rapid advance of the terrorist army and how Israel is preparing for a total collapse of the Assad government in Syria.

The Five Reasons Why Syria Was Caught By Surprise

Guest Post by Andrew Korybko

The disaster in Aleppo was avoidable and is just as bad as it looks.

The Turkish-backed terrorists’/“rebels’” advance on Aleppo, which was analyzed here, came as a shock to most observers. There was almost half a decade of peace between the March 2020 ceasefire and now, yet practically nothing was done to prepare for this possibility. This was in spite of the front line remaining roughly two dozen kilometers away from Aleppo, which should have reminded Assad of how vulnerable his country’s second city is. Here are the five reasons why Syria was caught by surprise:

———-

1. Complacency & Corruption

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) rested on its laurels because it took the Russian-brokered ceasefire for granted, after which the country’s infamous corruption kicked in to degrade its capabilities. There’s no excuse for why even basic drones weren’t used for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) to detect the buildup that preceded this advance. A large part of why the SAA didn’t do anything is likely because it assumed that its Russian and Iranian allies would shoulder these responsibilities for them.

2. The Russian-Iranian Rivalry

Russia and Iran fought together against terrorism in Syria, but they’re also rivals who are competing with each other for premier influence over Damascus. So intense is their competition that Russia always does nothing other than occasionally complain whenever Israel bombs the IRGC there, never once giving Syria the means to intercept these attacks or retaliate afterwards. Had they not been rivals, then Russia and Iran could have jointly strengthened the SAA, carried out ISR in Idlib, and bolstered Aleppo’s defenses.

3. Distracted & Crippled Allies

To make matters even worse for Syria, the terrorists’/“rebels’” advance on Aleppo came precisely at the moment when Russia is distracted with the special military operation (SMO) and Iran has been crippled by its West Asian Wars with Israel. Without sufficient Russian airpower and Iranian manpower, including that which the latter could have called upon from Hezbollah, it’ll be extremely difficult for the SAA to push the attackers away from Aleppo. This factor, more than any other, might have even sealed its fate.

4. Ignoring The SMO’s Lessons

Even amidst the Russian-Iranian rivalry and its allies’ aforesaid problems, the SAA could have learned the SMO’s lessons on its own and correspondingly prepared much better for what ultimately came to pass. Masterful drone tactics and strategically dispersed units have characterized the attack thus far, both of which are hallmarks of the SMO, yet the SAA was totally unprepared for this. It must therefore take final responsibility for failing to do its duty in learning from that conflict and adapting its defenses accordingly.

5. Not Compromising For Peace

The last reason why Syria was caught by surprise is because it didn’t compromise for peace by accepting 2017’s Russian-written “draft constitution”, which was constructively critiqued in detail here. It’s chock-full of concessions so one can sympathize with Syria for rejecting it, but in hindsight, this could have finally resolved the conflict and thus averted the ongoing fiasco in Aleppo. For this reason, it could be revived during these desperate times, but the “opposition” might now demand even more concessions.

———-

The disaster in Aleppo was avoidable and is just as bad as it looks. It’s not part of a “5D chess master plan” to “trap the terrorists in a cauldron” like some members of the Alt-Media Community have implied or claimed. Observers should reject the “insight” shared by those who already discredited themselves with their fantastical takes on the SMO and the West Asian Wars. The “politically inconvenient” truth is that Syria was caught by surprise, the SAA is on the backfoot, and the worst might be yet to come.

War/Rumors of War Update between Israel and Iran, US B52 Bomber Deployment

Here is a recent update on the wars and rumors of war from RT Network about the recent deployments of US B52s and other aircraft. This is at least verifiable but once again it’s more warnings and posturing going back and forth. There are also lots of other rumors running wild but I can’t verify them as of yet. I will be watching…
