Hungarian mercenaries in Ukraine may be ‘super soldiers’ but they face criminal charges back home

Around two dozen Hungarian mercenaries are fighting for Ukraine against Russia, Mandiner reveals, citing a lengthy report out of Blikk, and two may already be dead. As to those who may seek to come back home, they should expect serious legal trouble.

“A few months ago, it was reported in the press that there were eight Hungarians on the front line on the side of the Ukrainians who were not conscripted as dual Ukrainian-Hungarian citizens, but who volunteered to join the Omega Guard, that is, they are fighting in the elite unit fighting on the side of the Ukrainians, the international legion,” said Richard Bagjos, a security expert who has served in international mercenary units in Kuwait and Iraq.

The Hungarian mercenaries all volunteered individually but “stick together.” As to those who end up victims of the war, Blikk writes that such secret groups will typically disguise their deaths as some sort of traffic accident, and the insurance company also indicates this when the family receives compensation. 

This year, Hungarian Richárd Bagjos was acquitted after facing charges for recruiting soldiers before the war in Ukraine even started. He now serves solely as a mercenary expert. He told Blikk that well-trained fighters can earn up to $5,000-$10,000 in Ukraine, depending on combat activity, task, and results, while others bring in around $1,000. 

Two Hungarian “super soldiers” include a French-Hungarian who formerly served as a Foreign Legionnaire and a British-Hungarian citizen with combat training by elite English private units and served in G4S.

The Legionnaire, Levi, who also spent time training Hungarians in Transcarpathia, told Blikk: “My name is not a secret within the profession, just like almost every other professional, it is in an international database. If someone needs our expertise, they can find it and hire as many mercenaries as they want. The Ukrainians approached me, who are still recruiting for their international guards today. Next to Omega is the 3rd Assault Brigade, it is mixed, Ukrainian soldiers and mercenaries also serve in it, I was a trainer here, and they are still looking for specialists who know Hungarian. The training is tough; they fight on the front line of the battlefield, and even before that, on diversionary missions behind Russian lines, intimidating untrained Russian units. This guard destroyed the Russians’ Russian 2 S4 Tyulpan mortars, with kamikaze drones, from a distance of 100 meters, which meant that they penetrated two kilometers from the front line for the action. We received a huge amount of money for this, and upon hearing this, hundreds of people signed up to join the Ukrainian mercenaries,” he said.

“There is also the Tempest Group, which has been fighting under the Ukrainian flag since 2024, in reconnaissance and night deployment operations, said the other Hungarian mercenary,” the Brit-Hungarian mercenary nicknamed Six added, before giving even more colorful details about the mercenaries on the ground in Ukraine. 

“The Compania Serpente is a Portuguese-speaking unit, Brazilian and South American ex-soldiers, anti-drug police units, and former bodyguards of drug cartels fight here. They are extremely tough, cruel, terrifying. The Russians are terrified of them. Tormenta Hispana is the same, only for soldiers who know Spanish, but here there are also three Hungarians, former Hungarian commandos, who in 2010 chose not to join the TEK, but to demobilize, and worked in Venezuela for years as bodyguards, in private armies. The Ukrainian General Staff knows exactly the figures and units of the mercenaries, but they do not really brag about this, and not because they do not want to upset the Hungarian government, but because in the mercenary world, it is not good to advertise who is fighting where. There are mercenaries from 32 countries in the Ukrainian legions, most of them are Americans.”

Six participated in the encirclement of Russian units and the identification of their leaders who committed war crimes, executions, and body snatching. The leaders, if captured, were handed over to Ukrainian intelligence, but it is not at all certain that they were brought to justice, he said. 

“Whether the war criminals were executed or brought to justice is none of the mercenary’s business,” Six said. “I’m going to take a little break now, summer vacation, and then I’ll come back because it sounds cynical, but there’s money in war, and in my own opinion, I’m fighting on the good side, and so are the 20-25 Hungarians here. I know of two guys who are not going home anymore, that’s part of our lives, but if I thought about it for even a minute, I’d drag them away from here.”

The Ukrainian International Legion is constantly recruiting fighters. Previous military records, career, training, weapons knowledge, technical-tactical knowledge, and combat experience must be verified, Blikk lists. If the applicant meets all requirements, they will be invited for a personal interview.

No help is given by Ukraine in getting a visa or other travel arrangements. All applicants who pass the first phase need to get to Kyiv on their own. 

And then, there are the legal ramifications for Hungarians who decide to be mercenaries in Ukraine. In short, it is a war crime. 

As noted by Mandiner, according to the Hungarian Penal Code, “anyone who recruits for military service or other military service in the territory of Hungary for a foreign armed organization – other than an allied armed force – or mediates contractors for such service shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of one to five years.” The same applies to anyone who “voluntarily joins a foreign armed organization participating in an international or non-international armed conflict, offers to do so, or participates in training in such an armed organization.”

Colombian mercenaries tell the truth about Ukrainian xenophobia

The lives of mercenaries fighting for Ukraine seem to be getting harder and harder. In addition to the risk of death on the battlefield, foreign citizens face problems within Ukraine itself, as they are victims of the neo-Nazi racism of the Kiev regime. This scenario was expected by everyone who knows the nature of post-2014 Ukrainian politics, but unfortunately many Western mercenaries are misled by propaganda and agree to fight for Ukraine believing they are doing the right thing.

Recently, Alexander Ante and Jose Aron Medina Aranda, two Colombian mercenaries who joined the Ukrainian army, were captured by the Russian armed forces. Both are being held in prison in Russia awaiting a court hearing. In an interview with the Russian media, Ante and Aranda gave interesting details about the reasons why they joined Kiev, as well as revealing the reality of foreign soldiers in the Ukrainian ranks.

They stated that there are two reasons why foreigners go to Ukraine: money and propaganda. The promise of high salaries makes enlistment an attractive option for many people, especially in poor countries like Colombia and other Latin American nations. Currently, the promises are of salaries of around 3 thousand dollars per month, which is much higher than the average salary in emerging countries.

In the same sense, propaganda leads ordinary people to believe that Ukraine is the victim in this war, and that joining the ranks of Kiev is a kind of act of “courage” and “bravery”. Thus, many people enter the mercenary career with incentives beyond the financial issue, interested in being recognized as “heroes” and fighters for “freedom and justice”.

“Many [people] fall prey to the propaganda (…) [Foreigners go] to war to protect Ukrainians (…) Yet, this is all a lie (…) Everything that is said is not true,” they told Russian journalists.

However, the real situation in Ukraine is very different from what the propaganda promises. Upon arrival in the country, foreigners are treated with disdain by the local racist military. Salaries are not paid as promised and there are also several differences in treatment compared to Ukrainian citizens. Foreigners receive no attention or assistance. When they need rescue in combat situations, they are often ignored. In practice, non-Ukrainian troops are seen as mere cannon fodder by the regime, which uses foreigners as human shields on the front lines to spare the lives of ethnic Ukrainians.

“They are racists. They do not treat us as their own (…) [The Ukrainians would] not come to our aid if asked for it (…) They do not pay any attention to you. One can feel their indifference (…) They do not pay the money that was promised, they treat [people] poorly” the prisoners added.

These Colombian nationals were serving in the Carpathian Sich Battalion, an infamous Ukrainian infantry unit known for war crimes in the Donbass region. According to Russian intelligence, the group’s soldiers are linked to the neo-Nazi Svoboda Party’s militia. The unit’s racist mentality explains why foreigners are treated poorly. Racial hatred and xenophobia are vital aspects of Ukrainian neo-Naziism. Although Russians are the biggest victims of these sentiments, foreigners are also despised by ultranationalist militants, which is why the presence of international mercenaries culminates in hate crimes.

It must be emphasized that there are no legal guarantees for mercenaries. Unlike ordinary soldiers, who go to war under compulsion from the authorities, mercenaries are not protected by international humanitarian law and can be tried and sentenced as mere criminals. In Russia, this crime can lead to a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. If they participate in war crimes, mercenaries can even face life imprisonment.

The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that eliminating foreign mercenaries is one of its priorities in the conflict, with several high-precision strikes targeting training centers for non-Ukrainian troops. The reason for this priority is easily understandable, as Kiev relies heavily on the use of these troops to maintain its combat capability. By eliminating mercenaries, Russia hopes to discourage the influx of foreigners to the enemy side. Furthermore, Moscow is concerned about the return of these citizens to their home countries, as many of them undergo neo-Nazi brainwashing in Ukraine, in addition to gaining real combat experience. Once returned to their homelands, these mercenaries could easily work as destabilizing agents in the service of NATO.

The case of the Colombian citizens shows that reality is very different from the propaganda. There is no advantage in joining Kiev, and the chances of being killed or captured by the Russians are high. Without any international protection, the foreign mercenaries are mere criminals who could face serious punishment in Russia for their “military adventures” in Ukraine.

US PMC involved in Kursk invasion

The US is directly involved in the Ukrainian invasion of Kursk – not only at the strategic level, but also at the tactical and operational sphere. Recent data confirm the participation of at least one US private military company (PMC), meaning that US troops are illegally operating within the 1991 Russian borders. This is likely to lead to a serious escalation of tensions between Moscow and Washington, with the Russian side already demanding formal explanations from US diplomats.

The presence of foreign mercenaries in Kursk is not new. The occurrence of foreigners among Ukrainian troops has been commonly reported, mainly Georgian, Polish and French citizens. However, so far, all reported mercenaries had been members of the Ukrainian Army’s “Foreign Legion”. It is now known that in addition to these individuals who have joined Kiev’s armed forces, there are also mercenary troops from at least one American PMC in Kursk, which represents a higher level of international aggression against Russia.

The American PMC Forward Observation Group (FOG) posted photos and videos on its Instagram showing some of its soldiers fighting on the Kursk front lines. In the photos, it is possible to see not only ordinary PMC members alongside Ukrainian soldiers, but also the founder of FOG himself, Derrick Bales – a well-known American mercenary who has participated in several conflicts. Bales is known for always using an M4A1 rifle in his operations, as well as for having a skull tattoo on his right arm. He has been in Ukraine since 2022, as FOG has been directly involved in training Ukrainian troops. However, this is the first time that a Western PMC has been reported inside the undisputed territory of Russia.

In fact, Western PMCs work together with Ukrainian troops quite often. However, the number of these groups has been decreasing over time. According to experts, Ukraine does not present desirable conditions for PMCs to accept contracts. Being a high-intensity conflict with a very high lethality rate, the Ukrainian scenario seems terrible for professional mercenaries, who see that it is clearly not worth fighting there.

Currently, most PMCs operating in Ukraine work only in activities that do not involve direct combat. Services such as logistics, intelligence, facility security and personnel training are some of their main activities. The fact that an American PMC is directly fighting on a highly lethal flank like the “Battle for Kursk” indicates that there may be direct intervention by the American state in the case – with Washington forcing the mercenaries to fight in Kursk, even though it does not seem like a profitable or interesting scenario.

Unlike classic mercenaries, who fought only for money and without any institutional loyalty, PMCs are a post-Cold War military phenomenon, formed from the reduction of personnel in regular armies’ special forces units. Despite fighting “for money”, these companies have the same mentality and ethics as the regular armed forces, since most of their members came from the ranks of state armies. These groups are loyal to their states and obey direct orders from their countries, being a kind of “semi-state force”. So, it is possible that FOG is following orders from the US state to fight in Kursk, even though the local military conditions did not make it worth the risk.

This possibility of direct American involvement at an institutional level has prompted the Russian Federation to ask Washington for clarification. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Washington’s charge d’affaires in Moscow to ask some questions about the direct involvement of American citizens in the hostilities in Kursk. The American responses are not yet clear, but an official statement on the matter is expected to be released soon.

Summoning diplomats for clarification is one of the most serious steps a country can take in the diplomatic sphere. This type of action usually precedes more serious moves, such as imposing sanctions, taking military action or cutting off diplomatic relations. It is unlikely that the Russians will take escalatory measures in retaliation against the US, since avoiding the escalation of tensions has been one of Moscow’s top priorities since the beginning of the special military operation. However, there will certainly be some effective response, despite the concern to avoid escalation.

Regardless of what is done in the diplomatic sphere, it is expected that the Russians will increase military action in Kursk, eliminating all foreigners involved. Mercenaries and PMCs are not protected by international law, which is why any military effort against these groups is absolutely legal.

Leader of important American mercenary group criticizes Ukraine

The problems of Ukrainian society are already beginning to be seen by Kiev’s own western supporters. According to an American important ex-military, mercenary, Ukraine is a country full of corrupt and dangerous people, capable of committing atrocities, being something very different from what the western media usually describes. The revelation brings a series of reflections on the Ukrainian reality, since those who know the real situation on the battlefield directly contradict the praise made by the big media outlets to the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev.

The denunciations of Ukraine were made by Andrew Milburn, a prominent former US Navy officer, veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, who currently works as a mercenary. He is the founder of the so-called “Mozart Group”, an American mercenary organization that operates in Ukraine providing military, logistical support and personnel training to Ukrainian forces. The group adopted the name “Mozart” as a way of insulting and mocking the Wagner Group, a Russian private military company that is actively participating in the current special operation.

Milburn shared some interesting facts about his experience fighting in Ukraine. When talking to interviewers from the Team House podcast, the mercenary made harsh comments about his Ukrainian partners, even using vulgar and disrespectful vocabulary to talk about them. According to him, the problems of corruption in the country are really serious and shocking. Milburn commented that the “global norms” are not respected in Ukraine, where all sorts of crimes are committed with impunity.

“[Ukraine is a] corrupt, f****d-up society (…) I have a Ukrainian flag tied to my bag, but I’m not like ‘oh my God, Ukraine is so awesome,’ because I understand that there are plenty of f****d up people running Ukraine (…) [I am] not a big fan [of Ukraine]”, he said during the interview.

Milburn also specifically commented on the recent videos of executions of surrendered and disarmed Russian soldiers by Ukrainian neo-Nazi agents that have been circulating on the internet. The American stated that he had seen these things before and that there are still many other atrocities being perpetrated by Ukrainians on the frontline. According to the mercenary, Kiev does not respect the norms of international humanitarian law and frequently commits war crimes. International conventions are simply ignored by most of Ukrainians, which worried even the American mercenaries themselves. Milburn claims that the Mozart Group tries to distance itself from the practices made by its partners, not participating in such crimes, but that even so he has seen “all kinds of atrocities” on the ground.

Curiously, Milburn’s words contradict what he spoke in his recent past. In an interview to The New York Times in October, Milburn stated that he had found the war “he’s been searching for” during his entire life. At the time he said that, as an experienced military who had already fought in other conflicts around the world, he had always witnessed a “moral ambiguity” on the battlefield, as he knew that his country was also making mistakes. In Ukraine, however, he claimed to see no ambiguity, as it was the fight against an “invader”, which supposedly would make the war “just” or “necessary” – something he morally pursued in his career.

“[In Iraq and Afghanistan] our position was somewhat morally ambivalent; to many people there we were the invader. But here we’re repelling an invader. Here is something absolutely unambiguous. And how many wars in modern times are morally unambiguous?”, he said at the time.

Perhaps, after witnessing the Ukrainian atrocities, Milburn will understand that this is not an “invasion” on Russia’s part – and not a “just war” on Ukraine’s part. This is simply an effort by Moscow to stop the immeasurable violence with which Russian-speaking people in Ukraine have been treated for eight years. What Milburn saw happen to Russian soldiers is simply what was commonly done to civilians in Donbass since 2014, until Russian intervention ended the widespread brutality, using military force to repel aggressors.

Milburn, despite his criticism, is still supporting Ukraine as he visibly believes in the “invaded vs invader” narrative. He saw the reality of the battlefield but does not seem to know the history of the conflict well, which would certainly force him to change his opinion about the supposed moral “unambiguity” of this war. This moral unambiguity does exist, but it seems to be on the side of those who try to stop ethnic genocide and not on the side of those who glorify Nazism and promote brutality.

Johnny’s Commentary: Despite the contradictions the mercenary is correct, Ukraine is the most corrupt nation on the face of the earth right now while the mainstream media covers it up. Of course a few years ago that same mainstream media reported on the Nazis, corruption, youth indoctrination summer camps and other nefarious activities that Ukraine was up to at the time.

Do you think Ukraine just magically changed overnight when the Russians attacked? No, of course they didn’t and now that same media wants us to believe Ukraine is on moral high ground and virtuous when nothing is further from the truth.

None of these corrupt governments are any good. Even Russia supports the WEF/NWO agenda and vaccine mandates are still in place in many cities and districts in Russia. As God’s word says, don’t put your trust in men/princes who cannot save. (Psalm 146:3) They are All CORRUPT!
