Russia Fires S300 Anti-Aircraft Missiles at Israeli Jets Over Syria

The IDF said the incident was “unprecedented” and they are now wondering if this was a one time deal or if this is a permanent policy change by Russia.

The S-300s, like the S-400s, have been in Syria for a long time but have never been used against Israeli fighters thanks to the Israel-Russia agreement.

The Israelis stress that Syria’s S-300s are controlled solely by the Russian military and that they can not activate or launch missiles without their approval.

These are systems that were transferred from Hmeimim air base in February 2018. Keep in mind Russia has threatened to shoot down Israeli jets at the end of April. Russia said that “Israel is a threat to regional security” and they were also upset that former Israeli special forces troops and weapons were going to Ukraine to assist in the fight against Russia.

I spoke about that story on the website in a different video where I also included some of the ancient history between Israel and Ukraine in particular. You can watch that video by CLICKING HERE.

More analytically, Israeli media report that the Russian air defense responded to the Israeli attack on Friday, launching “several anti-aircraft missiles”.

“Amid rising tensions between Israel and Russia over the war in Ukraine, Russian S-300s fired for the first time at Israeli fighter jets during an Israeli airstrike last Friday (May 13th),” Israel’s Channel 13 reported on Monday.

“After hundreds of Israeli airstrikes against targets in Syria, a Russian Army air defense artillery responded on Friday to a wave of Israeli Air Force aircraft attacking targets in the western part of the country.”

Where did the incident happen
According to the report, the incident took place on Friday night, when the Israeli Air Force bombed several targets near the city of Masyaf in northwestern Syria.

The Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Reconciliation in Syria said Israeli F-16s fired 22 missiles at a “Syrian scientific research center” in the western Syrian city of Masyaf and in the port of Baniyas on May 13.

In addition to the bombing of Iranian arms shipments for fighters in Syria and Lebanon, as well as Iranian-backed weapons factories and depots in Syria, Israeli strikes in Syria last week were intended to destroy entrances to underground facilities, he said. the Jerusalem Post.

However, this time the S-300s also opened fire as the fighters were leaving the area.

The Masyaf area is considered a base for Iranian forces and pro-Iranian militias and has been repeatedly targeted in recent years in attacks attributed to Israel. Source

  • Wondering if S300 is getting close to hitting Israeli jets. The Israeli jets must be able to evade. So far.
Is S300 fairly advanced equipment? Do Russians have more sophisticated anti air devices ?
Thank you for your news! Prayers going out for these brave pilots.
