Farmers at Risk as Louisiana Diesel Shortage Triggers Emergency
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry declared a 30-day state of emergency on September 23, 2026, to address record diesel prices that have reached $6.03 per gallon, more than double the cost farmers anticipated in their 2026 harvest budgets.
The emergency order, effective through October 22, 2026, allows farmers and timber harvesters to use dyed (off-road) diesel in highway-registered vehicles, temporarily suspending penalties for mixing fuel types to ensure immediate availability during peak harvest.
Some farmers are also openly warning of famine IN AMERICA and the world now because so many farmers have to leave their crops to rot. They simply can’t afford the diesel fuel needed to run their machinery to harvest their crops. They would lose money.
