Tooth Infection Update

I went to have the bad tooth extracted yesterday but the abscess above it in the gum line was too large and needed to be drained first. This was the first time their dentists apologized to me for not taking my concerns seriously. It was a small pocket the last time they saw me but the infection proved to be antibiotic resistant so a new course was started and the abscess was lanced and drained.

This detailed anatomical illustration shows the internal structure of a tooth and the formation of a dental abscess.

I’m not trying to be gross, but the dentist said that it was a “geyser” when it was lanced and that most of it should’ve been drained almost immediately. He left the wound open however just in case it needed more draining. The dentist told me that if it had gone another day or two I would’ve ended up in the hospital with a sepsis type infection. Thank God that didn’t happen!

Today it feels better and the swelling is down but I will still have to be vigilant to keep it clean etc. Thank you for the prayers and well wishes. I plan on taking it easy again today to facilitate healing but I will always be watching.

Johnny
