NATO and Russian Aircraft are Facing off on the Border Areas

Russia is flying large aircraft strike packages towards NATO countries along their Western borders.
Su-35, Su-27 and MiG-29 take off from Belarus
Russia is increasingly harassing NATO aircraft near Polish airspace, reinforcing the need for air policing on both the Polish and NATO sides, said a senior Polish Air Force official.
“The current situation brings more tension, more danger, and it is definitely more serious for the whole NATO community,” said Brigadier General Ireneusz Nowak, Chief of the Air Force.
Nowak revealed that Russian Su-35, Su-27 and MiG-29 are taking off from Belarus and approaching Polish airspace. This has happened many times since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“It’s a fairly common condition, ” Nowak said. “Fighters take off two or three times faster reaction force, usually in 24 hours, so there are a lot of incidents.”
Russian air defense systems also monitor NATO aircraft.
“Everything they have, they have brought here,” he said. “There are a variety of threats.”
Beriev A-50 also take off
Novak said Russia was also using the early warning and control aircraft, the Russian AWACS Beriev A-50. “It is in the air at all times,” he emphasizes.
The growing presence of Russian fighter jets near Polish airspace bordering the Baltic and Belarus in recent months has been met with the relocation of fighters from the UK’s RAF Lakenheath base and Germany’s Spangdahlem air base in the first week of February. before the start of the invasion on 24 February. Germany and the United Kingdom also took part in the effort.
Even with NATO air support, Russia is testing NATO airspace and response time.
Violations along the Black Sea
Violations and interceptions are also reported by Romania.
NATO planes have taken off from Romania four times in the last 20 days to intercept Russian fighters. Russian fighter jets took off from Crimea, heading towards NATO territory along the Black Sea coast.
Each time, the Russian planes returned without incident.
“We have more Russian aircraft flying around the Black Sea ,” said Spanish Lt. Gen. Fernando De La Cruz Caravaca, commander of NATO’s Joint Aviation Operations Center.
“We react to them every time any Russian aircraft flies into the Black Sea,” he added. ” We have to make sure we are there, ready, in front of them, just in case.”
The United Kingdom has sent six Eurofighter Typhoons to be added to the eight Italian Typhoons participating in the mission along with Romanian MiG-21 Lancer and six American F-16s from the 480th Squadron of Germany’s Spangdahlem Air Base. Source
